🌿 Care Guide
Plant Name: Devil’s Backbone
Botanical Name: Pedilanthus tithymaloides
Common Names: Zigzag Plant, Redbird Cactus, Jacob’s Ladder
Origin: Tropical Americas
🌞 Light
Enjoys bright, indirect sunlight. Can adapt to partial shade but grows more compact with stronger light.
💧 Watering
Water moderately—let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry before watering again. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
🌡️ Temperature
Best in 65–85°F (18–29°C). Sensitive to cold drafts—keep above 55°F (13°C).
🌱 Soil
Requires well-draining soil, ideally a cactus or succulent mix with added sand/perlite.
✂️ Maintenance
Prune to control shape and encourage bushier growth. Wear gloves when pruning—sap can be toxic and irritating.
⚠️ Sad Plant Signs
🟡 Yellowing, dropping leaves – Overwatering
🌿 Sparse, leggy stems – Not enough light
⚠️ Leaf curl or burns – Too much direct sunlight
Would you like me to also make a variegated Devil’s Backbone (white/green striped leaves) version separately in the same style?
