🌿 Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
Hardy. Architectural. Air-Purifying. The Spider Plant is a classic, easy-going houseplant known for its arching green and white striped leaves. Famous for filtering indoor air and producing cheerful plantlets (spiderettes) — a joyful choice for any home!
✅ Easy to care for & great for beginners!
☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates lower light but growth may slow. Avoid intense direct sun — it can scorch the leaves.
💧 Watering
Water thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Tolerates being slightly dry. Drooping leaves indicate thirst.
🪴 Soil
Standard, well-draining houseplant potting mix. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots. Adding perlite improves drainage.
🌱 Fertiliser
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Use half-strength fertilizer.
✂️ Pruning
Trim plantlets (spiderettes) as desired. Remove brown or dry tips with sharp shears. Pruning encourages more plantlets.
🪣 Repotting
Repot every 1–2 years when root-bound. Choose a pot 1–2 inches larger. Spider Plants prefer being slightly root-bound but grow well with more space. Propagate plantlets by placing in water or soil.
