🌿 Care Guide
Plant Name: Sweet Basil
Botanical Name: Ocimum basilicum
Common Names: Basil, Niaz Bu, Sweet Basil
Origin: South Asia and Africa
🌞 Light
Requires full, direct sunlight — at least 6–8 hours per day. A south-facing windowsill or sunny balcony is ideal. Insufficient light leads to poor flavor and weak stems.
💧 Watering
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry — typically every 1–2 days. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Water at the base, not on leaves.
🌡️ Temperature
Thrives in 65–95°F (18–35°C). Very sensitive to cold — keep away from temperatures below 50°F (10°C) and cold drafts.
🌱 Soil
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Adding compost or organic matter significantly boosts flavor and growth.
✂️ Maintenance
Pinch off flower buds as soon as they appear to keep the plant producing leaves. Harvest regularly from the top to encourage bushy growth. Fertilize lightly every 2–3 weeks.
⚠️ Sad Plant Signs
🍂 Wilting, soft stems – Underwatering. Water immediately.
🟡 Yellow leaves – Overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient deficiency.
🌸 Flowering/bolting – Too much heat or plant reaching end of cycle. Pinch off flowers immediately.
