🌿 Care Guide
Plant Name: Black Mondo Grass
Botanical Name: Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'
Common Names: Black Mondo Grass, Black Lilyturf
Origin: Japan
🌞 Light
Thrives in partial to full shade. One of the few plants that produces deep black foliage — more shade brings out stronger dark coloring. Tolerates indirect light.
💧 Watering
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Keep moderately moist. More drought-tolerant once established. Reduce watering in winter.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal range: 50–80°F (10–27°C). Hardy and cold-tolerant compared to most houseplants. Protect from extreme heat.
🌱 Soil
Use a well-draining, moisture-retaining potting mix. Moist but not waterlogged conditions suit it best.
✂️ Maintenance
Remove any dried or dead blades. Divide clumps every 2–3 years to refresh growth. Fertilize lightly once a month during the growing season.
⚠️ Sad Plant Signs
🟡 Yellow blades – Overwatering or waterlogged soil.
🟤 Brown, crispy tips – Too much direct sun or underwatering.
📉 Pale, fading black color – Too much direct sunlight. Move to a shadier spot.
