🌿 Care Guide
Plant Name: Rhoeo Discolor
Botanical Name: Tradescantia spathacea
Common Names: Moses in the Cradle, Oyster Plant, Boat Lily
Origin: Mexico and Central America
🌞 Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light. The purple underside coloring is most vivid in strong light. Tolerates partial shade but growth will slow.
💧 Watering
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep soil moderately moist during summer. Reduce watering in winter. Avoid waterlogging.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal range: 60–85°F (16–29°C). Protect from frost and cold drafts below 55°F (13°C).
🌱 Soil
Use a well-draining indoor potting mix. A mix with perlite or sand works well to prevent root rot.
✂️ Maintenance
Remove lower leaves as they age to keep the plant tidy. It naturally cascades in hanging baskets. Fertilize lightly monthly during the growing season.
⚠️ Sad Plant Signs
🟡 Yellow leaves – Overwatering or poor drainage.
🤍 Faded purple coloring – Insufficient light. Move to a brighter spot.
🍂 Brown, crispy tips – Low humidity or underwatering.
